Netflix releases the official trailer for White Hot: The Rise & Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch, which follows the journey of the controversial brand.
Netflix has released the official trailer for its upcoming documentary film, White Hot: The Rise and Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch. Directed and produced by HBO Shredded Alison Klayman, the documentary will follow the pop-culture phenomenon of the American clothing brand, accused of promoting elitism and exclusion, from the late 90s to the early 2000s. Recently, Abercrombie & Fitch closed more than 130 stores, refocusing as an online retailer.
Now Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for its next documentary, following the rise and fall of Abercrombie & Fitch. The trailer charts the company’s journey of success in selling the idea of exclusion. Under former CEO Mike Jeffries, the brand became entrenched in controversy as it sought to hire only “attractive” people and fired those who went against its guidelines, which were heavily skewed in favor of those who were “young, skinny and white.“It ultimately led to the brand’s demise as the Netflix documentary features Samantha Elauf’s Supreme Court case against the brand for violating civil rights law by denying her a position to wear a religious headscarf. Despite their initial thriving fiscal achievements on the idea of exclusivity, Netflix’s upcoming documentary will focus on the controversies and lawsuits that have disenchanted the fashion brand’s public opinion, as well as interviews with former employees. In recent years, the company has redefined its vision to embrace diversity and inclusiveness in its customer base and in the workplace. For the time being, White Hot: The Rise and Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch premieres April 19, exclusively on Netflix.
