Kilsyth Community Council has allocated local development program funding to make the facility a reality.

Commenting on the new facility, Provost Jones said: “We are delighted to support this development and delighted that the Local Development Program funding can provide such a fantastic facility for young people in the area.”

Rennie Road Community Alliance had highlighted the need for a skate facility.

The group worked closely with staff from the council’s Community Partnership team at every stage of development to ensure the project reflected the aspirations of the community.

The community group will continue to work with the community partnership team on further developments to benefit local youth.

As part of this partnership, an offer will soon be submitted for the financing of a multi-use playground next to the new installation.

If successful, the former Rennie Road blaes ground would be transformed into a fantastic play and leisure space for youngsters.

The official opening of the new wheeled sports area was attended by representatives of Rennie Road Community Alliance, Provost Jean Jones, Local Councilor Heather Brannan-McVey, Bill Craik (Kilsyth Community Board Chairman) along with local residents .

Mr Craik said: “More of this equipment is needed in Kilsyth for young people.

“At the moment it seems a bit difficult and ready, but once the second phase is launched, it will be fine.

“We look forward to seeing more of these facilities in this region because the people deserve them. »
